| Happy Holidays! Christmas was wonderful, despite it's unwanted green-ness. The Clason clan was present in its hideous entirety; misbehaving toddlers, screaming infants, antisocial teens, disconnected adults. Plenty of competitive games were played, discussions took place, and ultimately, teary goodbyes passed. In the spirit of the season, we exchanged and consumed an inoordinate amount of goodies. Right now I'm trying to avoid thinking about the amount of money I frittered on this year's celebration of Christ's birth. Classes start in about three weeks--I cannot wait!! That may seem ridiculous to those who are just getting over last semester's finals, but I'm starving for brain stimulation. | | |
| | Currently Watching Lost - The Complete Second Season By Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Naveen Andrews, Emilie de Ravin, Matthew Fox, Jorge Garcia, Maggie Grace, Josh Holloway, Malcolm David Kelley, Daniel Dae Kim, Yoon-jin Kim, Evangeline Lilly, Dominic Monaghan, Terry O'Quinn, Harold Perrineau, Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Watros, Ian Somerhalder see related | I feel like I've cheated on Xanga due to a small infatuation with Facebook. It's pretty interesting to basically carry out a glorified game of dutch bingo online, and make "friends" with people you might not necessarily be able to have full-length convo's with in real life. However, since we all sort of have two lives/personalities, that's ok. But Xanga is definitely more meaningful, I'd have to say. This is a ridiculous post.
The last three weeks, since acquiring my new puppy, have been pretty crazy. That sounds dumb, but seriously, Linus is just like a little kid, or at least I must take similar considerations. Feeding times, potty times, etc, resulting in many sleepless nights. Anyway, his official name is Linus Horatio Clason, and he's a 14-week-old Weimaraner. He's gorgeous, and seems pretty smart so far. Meagan and Paige are great "aunts," and have helped a ton. Besides that, I'm now working at Mr. Burger in addition to Byron Manor. Let's just say that I hate the awkwardness of being a newb---but other than that, it's a great place to work. They're super-lenient about most things, give you pretty much unlimited free food, and best of all, do not require gloves. I'm not exactly ecstatic to be working in the greasy food industry again, but money's money, and I get to work with two of my brothers, my cousin, and my uncle (I think we're taking over). Marty's my boss, which is weird and sort of humbling, I guess.
I hope everyone's enjoying the snow!!

| I am now in my third week as resident aide of bldg. #3 at Byron Manor (assisted living facility). Contrary to my expectations, most of the work I do is not especially prescriptive. However I want to do things there is fine--whatever saves my back, hassle, etc., is cool. Anyway, it's remarkably similar to babysitting young children. You get them up, dress them, toilet them, feed them, bathe them, stave off their boredom, and deal with their petulance. It's totally like a regression into childhood. I'm enjoying it so far. Although we aren't given enough time to care for these people properly, we are for the most part all they have, so I do feel like I'm doing them good there. I hope I'm dead before I have to deal with that sort of indignity. Has anyone noticed how inconsistent country singers are? I am a big fan of this genre, don't get my wrong. However, it does seem a little strange to me that newcomer Carrie Underwood, for example, can on the one hand sing something like "Jesus, Take the Wheel," and then turn around and sing "I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights, carved my name into his leather seats..." in a vengeful barrage against her cheating boyfriend. That's just one in a myriad of inconsistencies, another being the admiration of patriotism, and the acceptance of alcoholism. Are most fans that ignorant, or are they, like myself, suspending all criticism for the sake of enjoyment? | | |
| Another addition to the family tree, and an adorable one at that--here's Elijah Mark Byker, born at 1am, 9-1... How could anyone reject something so precious?? Seriously... | | |
| What a different sort of summer this has been. Although it hasn't been externally gloomy, it has been the worst and most growth-compelling season (hence, best) I've ever experienced. It's so easy to wish for the "better," more nostalgic times when decisions were easy to make; the answers were assumed. Going to bed at night didn't include a prayer of thanks for preservation of sanity. However, I wouldn't sacrifice the closer relationship I've gained with God for all the sunny days in the world.
It was my last day at the Hospice yesterday. My boss brought cake, and everyone signed a card. Plus, one of the resident's wives gave me a "bucket of sweets." They were so nice about me leaving so soon, and even said that I could come back any time I wanted a job.
I intend to spend the next week doing a lot of reading and sleeping and organizing my life before I start my new job. Other than that I have absolutely nothing to do. I guess that will constitute the relaxing part of my summer. | | |
